Delightfully Gluten Free (TM)

New Product – El Monterrey Taquitos

Updated 8/2015: I have not seen these gluten-free in years.

While shopping at Costco today, I wandered through a freezer aisle, tagging along behind my mom (we went together and took a friend).  I saw two boxes of El Monterrey taquitos, with NEW splashed on the front.  Corn?  Oh how nice.  I was skeptical, but decided to check the ingredients anyways.

Before I could even find the ingredient list, “gluten free” just about jumped out and bit me.

I love it when that happens.

The flavors were shredded chicken and shredded beef.  Mom bought a box of the chicken, because she always likes to have some quick foods at her house that I can eat.

Another company has realized that we are out here, and we eat.  And we spend a lot of money to do it.

Updated:  We tried the corn, and did not like them.  We thought the tortilla was too thick and the chicken reminded us of canned tuna.

However, one of the commenters said they love the chicken ones.

Our Costco has had these for awhile and I enjoy them. The chicken is really good, the beef is really not. We whipped through the chicken quickly, and I’m afraid the beef might become freezer pops. Don’t like ’em at all.

Sadly, my local Costco (Woodbridge, VA) stopped carrying the beef ones recently–just as I ran out. I can’t find them anywhere now. I have yet to find chicken taquitos that are gluten free, including the El Monterrey brand. I’m not sure which ones Jen found, but they couldn’t have been El Monterrey.

It seems I was wrong…El Monterey chicken taquitos appear to be gluten free. I must have read the label from a different brand. Neither one are carried by my local Costco. 🙁

I should probably take this past down. I haven’t seen the gluten-free ones in years.
