Delightfully Gluten Free (TM)

Hey Shuga!, Lil’ Shuga!

Some people just have great timing.  Right before we moved, we received some samples of Hey Shuga! and Lil’ Shuga!  It was great timing, because right at the same time was when we found out about Braden’s allergies.  Bye, bye corn syrup (not that we used it much), hello organic sugar cane syrup.

My first use of this was pretty basic.  I mixed Hey Shuga! with unsweetened chocolate almond milk.  It didn’t take much, and it worked like a charm.

Hey Shuga! is basically just that: sugar.  Ok, and water.  Technically, it is organic invert cane sugar.  Lil’ Shuga is organic invert sugar, water, and Reb A (stevia extract).

I didn’t detect any aftertaste from the stevia in Lil’ Shuga!  I know stevia’s not “supposed” to have an aftertaste, but I have tasted it in some yogurts in the past.  This, however, seems to be aftertaste-free.\

With cool weather beginning to come upon us (well, it has only been in the 90s lately…), I need to start figuring out a good hot chocolate recipe for Braden that doesn’t have any corn or soy.  I think that Hey Shuga! just might play a starring role in that.

I wonder if I can use it to make “caramel corn” with popped sorghum…
