Delightfully Gluten Free (TM)

Way Better Snacks Tortilla Chips

What better salty snack is there than a hearty, tasty tortilla chip?  I don’t know, which is perhaps why I eat so many of them.

I recently received some tortilla chip samples from Way Better Snacks.  Not only are these chips non-GMO and certified gluten-free with the GFCO, they contain sprouted ingredients like grains, beans, and seeds.  I’ve known for a long time that flax seeds that go in whole come out whole; our bodies just don’t break through the outsides to digest them.  Sprouting seeds not only helps them become more digestible, but it also increases the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.  Check out the Way Better website for more information on sprouting.

Way Better Sweet Chili

My first test of these chips was on a quite miserable day, so I chose the plainest-looking bag of chips.  I was surprised with the flavor and the Simply Beyond Black Bean Tortilla Chips filled with sprouted black beans, sprouted flax seeds, and sprouted quinoa.  While a “plain” chip (no spices or anything like that), they have a deeper flavor, enriched by the black beans.

Unfortunately for the black beans, I hold a special place in my heart for sweet potato tortilla chips.  When you first bite into the Simply Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips, your senses are awakened to the salty outside and the sweetness from the tuber, which then yields to the flavor of the orange spud and ends with a grilled grain flavor.  Excellent.

Sweet.  Spicy.  Divine.  That’s my description of the Simply So Sweet Chili Tortilla Chips.  Honestly, I won’t let anyone else touch them.  Not only are they bursting with sweet and spicy flavor, but that spice lingers on your tongue for a long time.  It’s certainly not enough to make you cry (unless you’re a wimp – and don’t feel bad if you are, many of my friends are), but it makes sure you know these chips are passionate about heat.  The Sweet Chili have all sorts of sprouted ingredients: golden flax, chia seed, quinoa, radish seed, and broccoli seed.  I can certainly say I’ve never thought to put broccoli or radish seeds in my food before.  But, oh my gosh, these are so good.  They even have 2 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber.  I’m going to call that a win! this morning for sure.

Way Better Snacks can be found in lots of stores, including Kroger, Wegman’s, Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, H-E-B, and oddly enough, Fry’s Electronics.  Because, let’s face it, when you are putting together a computer, you need some tasty brain food.
