Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt and a Sweepstakes

Filed under: Uncategorized — Cassandra @ 7:53 pm

What do you like about yogurt?  Do you want it thick and creamy, or do you like the watered down versions?  Do you want it full of high fructose corn syrup, or lightly sweetened with natural sugar (or are you a plain yogurt person)?

Stonyfield Farm has brought us a new treat: Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt.

When I first tried the vanilla flavor, I was a little shocked.  Honestly, I was expecting something like the majority of flavored yogurts – too sweet and highly flavored.  What shocked me?  It actually tasted like yogurt, with a hint of sweet vanilla.  It wasn’t 5 ounces of sugar with a bit of cultured milk.  This was the real deal.

And so creamy…

Oh yeah, it’s fat free.

It’s the Greek method of straining the yogurt that makes this so creamy.  It also has twice the protein and less lactose than regular yogurt (and it’s gluten-free, of course).

I just savored the blueberry one (after my kids went to bed, so I wouldn’t have to share, lol).  There are real, whole blueberries in it!  And once again, creamy, with just a touch of sweetness.

I think I’m in love.

And I feel better knowing that there’s nothing crazy in my yogurt or the cows it came from.

Mooove over to the Oikos Organic website to pick up a coupon and find a store near you that carries Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt.

And the sweepstakes?

Stonyfield Farm (makers of Oikos) and the Environmental Protection Agency have created a Home Energy Quiz to test your energy efficiency IQ and provide energy saving tips.  One lucky test-taker will win $10,000 worth of ENERGY STAR-qualified Kenmore appliances from Sears!  Visit www.stonyfieldfarm.com to take the quiz and enter the contest.  Good luck!

Jungle Grub Snack Bars

Filed under: Reviews — Cassandra @ 8:17 pm

As you may have noticed, I have been a bit absent lately.  My brother called me “a blog slacker”.  I repent.

It’s been pretty busy around here lately.  I got sick during spring break, and had a tough month getting over that dumb cold (there may have been something else wrong with me, but I refused to go to the doctor).  Also, I was busy copy editing articles and recipes for the May issue of Delight gluten free Magazine.  (Have you subscribed yet?)

So, I got these snack bars in the mail a few weeks ago.  I wanted to make sure my taste buds were fully functional before telling you about them.

Well, we love them!

Jungle Grub snack bars come in three flavors:  Berry Bamboozle, Peanut Butter Groove, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.  They are small bars – 100 calories each and only 2 Weight Watchers points.  And unlike many nutrition bars, these actually taste like their names (though I’m only guessing at what groove and bamboozle should taste like, lol).

Jungle Grub snack bars are organic, meet school nutrtition standards, and are certified gluten-free by the GFCO.  According to the package, they were “formulated by nutritionists for kids ages 3 to 99.”  Each bar provides 4 grams of protein,  less than 15 grams of carbs, and less sugar than a glass of milk.  They are not dry and crumbly, but moist and chewy.

Carter thinks they are cookies.  Here he is sporting his Jungle Grub tattoo.  :)

If you are on the West Coast, look for them in your local stores.  If not, you can buy individual boxes from ShopOrganic.com and cases from Amazon.com (or you will soon – they are currently not in stock on Amazon).

Hooray for new snack bars!

.

And so I don’t get flogged, here is a picture from Corice on Saturday.  Can you believe she’ll be seven months tomorrow?  My, how time flies.

Celiac Patient Survey

Filed under: Uncategorized — Cassandra @ 10:29 am

Please take a few minutes to complete this patient survey.  I’m pretty sure it was put out by the University of Colorado.

It does have the option for “stool test” under diagnosis, so don’t be deterred if you don’t have a technical diagnosis.  Just write in the box if it is different.

Thank you.  Everytime we speak up, we create another ripple.
