Delightfully Gluten Free (TM)

cooksimple Meals

There’s a new boxed dinner in town.  cooksimple

I recently received some samples of cooksimple meals from the company.  We haven’t had a chance to try the Punjabi Curry yet, but some of us are looking forward to it (Braden, sort of, and I – curry isn’t their favorite thing).

We have, however, had the Cowboy Chili with Quinoa and Cinnamon.  For starters, I don’t think any of us have ever had chili with cinnamon.  Braden, especially, was quite hesitant.  It was very interesting as it sat and simmered on the stove because we could definitely smell the cinnamon.  It definitely smelled good, though.

“It doesn’t really taste like chili,” Braden said, “maybe because of the chili.”  Now, to Braden, that is a big compliment because he really does not like chili.  It is definitely mild, so after eating a little, Martin and I both added some red pepper flakes (which made it seem more like chili to me).  Of course, we’re from Texas, so chili is supposed to be spicy.

Everybody really liked it, including Little Miss Just-Became-Picky.

The cooksimple meals are “based on leaner protein, lower sugar, and higher fiber so you feel full with fewer calories” according to the box.  They retail for $4.99 a box, and are designed to feed a family of four for under $3 a serving.  Gluten-free, all natural, no added sugars… They are supposed to take less than 30 minutes to prepare.  Voila!

I look forward to trying some more, and may have to go out and find that New Orleans Jambalaya.  It looks great.
